Reiki is a none invasive treatment which aids relaxation and assists the body's natural healing process, developing and improving emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. A sense of clarity and clearing of 'brain fog' may follow a Reiki treatment. Reiki is harnessed by intent and channeled through the hands as a powerful yet unobtrusive flow of energy. When activated by the facilitator, Reiki flows from the facilitator to the recipient by the laying on of or hovering of hands. The recipient receives only as much as they need. Experiencing Reiki is different for everyone. Some say there is a sensation of warmth or coolness from the hands of the Reiki Practitioner. Some people can actually feel the pulsating rhythm, some feel a trembling sensation or a tingling. Some see colours and fall into a very deep state of relaxation. Sometimes the recipient does not feel anything physical but experiences a sense of deep calmness and peace. The word Reiki can be split into two parts, Rei and Ki. Rei means Universal or sacred, and Ki means energy. Reiki is an ancient hands on healing technique with its origins in Japan and Tibet. It is used to help re-charge, re-align and re-balance energy in the body. Usui Reiki was developed in Japan in the early 1900’s by Dr Mikao Usui. Over the years it spread to the west via Hawaii. Currently Reiki is practiced all over the world and is one of the most popular healing modalities. In America, Reiki is joining other complimentary therapies in conventional settings of hospitals, hospices, counselling centres, emergency rooms and intensive care units. Reiki has proven to be an important tool that can help minimise recovery time in hospital.
